ADMISSION RULES TO THE RIMSKY-KORSAKOV ST. PETERSBURG STATE CONSERVATORY
INTERNATIONAL APPLICANTS
Admission for international applicants takes place twice a year: June 1-25, September 1-14.
The application is through International Student Office.
The fields of study provided according to the state educational standard (full day time schedule) are the following:
Piano
Organ
Orchestra string instruments (violin, viola, violoncello, contrabass, harp)
Orchestral wind instruments (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, saxophone, French horn, trumpet, trombone, tuba) and percussion instruments
Orchestral folk instruments (balalaika, domra, gusli, guitar, bayan, accordion)
Vocal (solo singing)
Conducting (operatic & symphonic conducting, choral conducting)
Art of Choreographer
History and Theory of Choreography
Musicology
The programmes offered:
• Graduate course (5 years)
• Doctorate course (3 years)
• Post-graduate performance course (3 years)
• Special training course (from 2 months to10 months)
• Preparatory course (10 months)
All applicants (except for composition and music theory applicants) are required to submit a video recording (in .avi/ .mp4/ .fvl format) for preliminary presentation, in order to receive an invitation to live audition in St. Petersburg conservatory. Composition and music theory applicants are required to submit a copy of two compositions. After the recording/ portfolio has been reviewed, the applicant will be contacted by International Student Office.
Applicants for Operatic&Symphonic conducting programmes must have complete higher professional music education.
All entrance examinations are closed. At the examinations, besides examination board and an accompanist (accompanists), only a representative of the International Student Office is allowed.
The applicant who failed at the entrance examinations, or that who was not accepted to the programmes stated in his/her invitation and visa, must leave Russia within 7 days after entrance examinations are finished.
International students, who were accepted as ‘contract students’, cannot be transferred to the places financed from the budget.
Transfer of international students from other countries’ higher education institutions to the Rimsky-Korsakov St. Petersburg State Conservatory is not provided.
During the entrance examination period, international students are provided with accommodation at student residence at special rate. Accompanying persons are not provided with accommodation.
GRADUATE COURSE
Graduate course general requirements are:
Candidates must be over 18, have a certificate of completed secondary education (high school), or secondary professional education (equivalent to the appropriate Russian state format certificate); they must have talent and professional standard in one of music specialties/ choreography at the appropriate level, and those who have successfully passed entrance examinations.
International students for whom Russian is a second language must submit TORFL certificate (Level 1), or take an entrance examination based on TORFL requirements (Level 1) at St. Petersburg conservatory.
All Graduate course applicants should submit the following documents to the International Student Office:
- original certificate of complete secondary education (high school) and transcript with apostil seal/ legalization, or a certificate of secondary professional education
- Russian translation of the certificate and transcript made by Russian official translator and certified by Russian notary’s office
- passport valid 1,5 years from the date of arrival
- study-type visa issued on the grounds of the conservatory’s invitation
- medical certificate verifying the absence of contagious diseases including AIDS, fluorography results and information about vaccination.

- 13 photographs (3х4 см)

SPECIAL TRAINING COURSE
Special training course requirements are:
Candidates must have certificate of completed higher/ secondary professional education with transcript (equivalent to the appropriate Russian state format certificate), professional standard in one of music specialties/ choreography at the appropriate level, and those who have successfully passed entrance examination in specialty.
All Special training course applicants should submit the following documents to the International Student Office:
- original certificate of complete higher/ secondary professional education and transcript
with apostil seal/ legalization
- Russian translation of the certificate and transcript made by Russian official translator and certified by Russian notary’s office
- passport valid 1,5 years from the date of arrival
- study-type visa issued on the grounds of the conservatory’s invitation
- medical certificate verifying the absence of contagious diseases including AIDS, fluorography results and information about vaccination.

Starting dates are: any day during academic year, except the following periods: December 1 – February 10, May 01 – July 15.
Length of the Special training course is from 2 months to 10 months. The participants wishing to extend their course for the next academic year must submit the following documents:

PREPARATORY COURSE
Preparatory course general requirements are:
Candidates must be over 18, have a certificate of completed secondary education (high school), or secondary professional education (equivalent to the appropriate Russian state format certificate); they must have talent and professional standard in one of music specialties/ choreography at the appropriate level, and those who have successfully passed entrance examinations.
All Graduate main course applicants should submit the following documents to the International Student Office:
- original certificate of complete secondary education (high school) and transcript with apostil seal/ legalization, or a certificate of secondary professional education
- Russian translation of the certificate and transcript made by Russian official translator and certified by Russian notary’s office

DOCTORATE & POST GRADUATE COURSE

Candidates must have certificate of completed higher professional education with transcript (equivalent to the appropriate Russian state format certificate), professional standard in one of music specialties/ choreography at the appropriate level, and those who have successfully passed entrance examinations in specialty and the Russian language.

Doctorate & Post Graduate course applicants should submit critical essay in specialty (writing sample from recent academic work) no less than 20 pages (in Russian).
Entrance examinations:
• Examination in specialty (audition)
• Russian language examination
• Interview with the faculty on the applicant’s critical essay subject
Entrance examinations are held on the following dates: November 25 - 30.
